Author Ann Parker

Meet Ann Parker, a retired math teacher from El Paso, Texas, turned Alaska bestselling author and accomplished photographer. In 2016, Ann and her husband Shon, a former law enforcement officer, left their Texas home for Cub Lake in central Alaska. They landed in the bush to achieve their dream of living off-grid in the Last Frontier.

Ann initially documented her Alaska adventure story on Facebook for friends and family, who encouraged her to write a book. Follow Me to Alaska is the story of Ann and Shon’s move to the Last Frontier, their experiences of learning to live off-grid, Shon’s plane wreck, and so much more.

In 2021, I searched for potential endorsers for my Alaska memoir and found that Ann Parker’s book Follow Me to Alaska consistently held the bestseller flag. Little did I know that my email to her would lead to the endorsement I sought and a lasting friendship.

Ann’s endorsement for my memoir The Call of the Last Frontier reads, “An inspiring story of strength and grit that conveys a deep connection to this wild place we have both called home.” She also recorded a 30-second video for my promotional efforts.

Review: From a Tenderfoot to a Real Alaskan

As a former Alaska bush teacher, I found Follow Me to Alaska to be a delightful trip down memory lane. Ann found herself in remote Alaska, living off-grid with no access to a road except by plane or snow machine. Follow Me to Alaska is her story.

There is a learning curve when a tenderfoot (new Alaskan) arrives in the state. Follow Me to Alaska takes the reader through Ann Parker’s path from tenderfoot to becoming a real Alaskan, living the life many others can only imagine. It takes a special kind of person to step into the great unknown and do something so extraordinary as moving to bush Alaska and staying, which is the crucial point here – staying. Many come and go, but only a handful stay, and I know this to be true because I stayed for two decades.

With all the Alaska TV shows, Follow Me to Alaska feeds the world’s desire to know more about life in the Last Frontier.

One night, I woke up laughing as I relived a moment Ann Parker had on a snow machine catching air while going around a corner in the woods. I don’t believe I have ever dreamed about a book, and I certainly haven’t woken myself up laughing over one.
